1. Optics Quiz 2
2. Refraction Activity.
A) Shine a light ray straight at a glass block (so that it is perpendicular to the edge of the block). No refraction!
B) Shine the light so that it enters on an angle. Follow these instructions:
Draw: 1. The incident ray. 2. A normal where the ray hits the glass. 3. The refracted ray where it exits the glass. 4. A normal where the refracted ray exits the glass. 5. Remove the glass and connect the two rays. This will represent the refracted ray as the light moves from air to glass as well as the incident ray as the light moves from glass back to air. 6. Label the angle of incidence and the angle of refraction at each location where the light is moving from one medium into another. Now, write "light bends towards the normal when it slows down" at the appropriate location and "light bends away from the normal when it speeds up" at the appropriate location.
Students should study this weekend for the final exam. Final exam review sheets are here.
